600 km by bike in 7 days, more than 85 km on average per day, requires a good physical condition, but that is not impossible, especially as quite always you pedal on the flat following the course of the Danube, you have regular breaks, especially to visit the surrounding sites, and recover with good meals and comfortable accommodation after the effort !

The first 3 stages in Hungary may seem a bit monotonous, on often unpaved roads, but the wild nature makes the trip more authentic. Then, in Croatia and Serbia, the landscapes and the natives are more lively, all with a story to tell. Nature remains very pleasant, the villages, towns and regional metropolises are more and more interesting.

During 7 days, you are going to discover 3 different cultures of Eastern Europe, with traditions, gastronomic specialties,... You pedal, you visit, you meet different people,... In short, you would stay gladly a little longer !

THE BIKE GUIDE : Yes or No ?

* The bike guide is responsible for leading and managing the group throughout the different stages of the Bike Tour. He/she speaks several languages, including English.

* He/she is your first interlocutor for all subjects related to cycling (itinerary monitoring, small repairs,...).

* He/she carries the first aid kit and, if necessary, activates external services (insurance, mechanical repair, rescue,...).

* Always with the group, he/she regulates cadence so that everyone arrives at the end of the stage. But each one is free to ride with the group or solo, to meet the group later in the day or in the evening at the hotel.

* He/she facilitates check-in and check-out in hotels, restaurant orders, border crossing procedures, access to tourist sites.

* Maximum of 8 bikers per guide. A 2nd bike guide is necessary if your group has between 9 and 16 bikers, a 3rd bike guide is necessary if your group has between 17 and 24 bikers, etc...

BUT... If you prefer adventure alone or with your friends, already know how to regulate your pace to complete the stages in time (preferably before dark), and speak at least fluent English, you can do this cycle route without a bike guide. You will receive detailed itineraries before leaving, with recommended stops (landscapes, site visits, etc.) and will self-guide with your mobile phone or tablet, as long as you have a good internet connection on the move.

Dream Sports Adventure will provide the same advanced logistics (bike rental, reservation of hotels and activities included, etc.), and a hotline to resolve any unforeseen events.

Gulyasleves (Hungary)

Goulash soup, thick and tasty, made of meat (usually beef), vegetables (peppers, tomatoes, ..), potatoes, onions, garlic and páprica, served with bread. One of the most famous dishes in Hungarian cuisine.

Halászlé (Hungary)

Soup made with different freshwater fish (carp, perch, pike perch,...), onions and seasoned with páprica.

Bableves (Hungary)

Soup made with different vegetables, white beans, smoked meat, spiced up with páprica. A classic of Hungarian cuisine.

Hortobàgyi palacsinta (Hungary)

Pancake with minced meat, served hot, with a páprica sauce.

Pörkölt (Hungary)

Stew made with meat, onion and páprica, often accompanied by a small Hungarian pasta called nokedli.

Lécsó (Hungary)

Ratatouille made with tomato, fresh paprika and onions. Sometimes with sausage, or eggs, even rice,... Let yourself be tempted !

Paprikás cirke (Hungary)

Chicken with mild paprika sauce, usually accompanied by galuska, small pasta similar to gnocchi.

Töltött paprika (Hungary)

Paprikas (peppers) stuffed with meat, onions and rice served with a tomato sauce.

Lángos (Hungary)

Savory pastry, huge wheat and potato donut cooked in oil. Once cooked, add garlic, cream and grated cheese. With of course lots of different recipes !

Kürtőskalács (specialty of Transylvania, Hungary)

Chimney Cake, fine brioche baked on a spit and caramelized, usually with sugar, cinnamon, chocolate, or coconut. A variant with an ice cream inside has been the new fashion for a few years. This is often what you eat when you leave the thermal baths.

Tokaj wines (Hungary)

Powerful sweet wines, of great aromatic richness, classified as a World Heritage. Louis XIV already said of Tokaj that he was "the king of wines and the wine of kings" !

Pálinka (Hungary)

Traditional Hungarian brandy with an alcohol content of 35 to 70%, produced from apples, pears, plums, apricots, raspberries, grapes and cherries. Make your choice !

Pršut (Croatia)

All over Croatia you will be served smoked ham as a starter, with different qualities depending on the restaurant.

Paški sir (Croatia)

Hard cheese, made with sheep's milk, served as a starter, like any cheese in Croatia. It has an AOC and must be produced on the island of Pag.

Salata od hobotnice (Croatia)

Octopus is very present in the Croatian Adriatic Sea, and logically is found in all restaurants. As a cold salad, cut into small pieces, it is served with potatoes, tomatoes, onions, capers,… and extra virgin olive oil.

Štrukli sa sirom (Croatia)

Typical Croatian dish, originally a specialty of the Zagreb region. Served hot, they look like pasta topped with cream cheese. Quite heavy at first glance but above all delicious, and very appreciable during harsh winters.

Lignje na žaru (Croatia)

You cannot leave Croatia without having tasted the squid, which most Croatians living on the coast fish with their own small boat. On the menu of all restaurants. Usually grilled over a wood fire. Simple but delicious.

Brudet (Croatia)

Croatian bouillabaisse, with all kinds of fish cooked in white wine, and sometimes tomatoes. Usually served with polenta.

Pljeskavica sa sirom (Croatia)

Typical Croatian dish with minced and grilled meat, stuffed with cheese. Usually served with fries, ajvar (mashed peppers and tomatoes) and onions.

Peka (Croatia)

The peka is a cast iron bell which gave its name to this specialty. Place a dish in the fireplace, usually filled with octopus and potatoes, or veal and potatoes, cover it with the cast iron bell and then with embers. And it cooks like this for several hours. Croats are fond of this specialty, offered in typical restaurants with a fireplace.

Sarma (Croatia / Serbia)

Cabbage leaves stuffed with minced meat and rice, cooked in a broth with smoked meat. In Serbia, it is eaten especially during the great Orthodox feast of Slava. One of the best dishes in the region, to taste absolutely !

Punjene paprike (Croatia / Serbia)

Peppers stuffed with the same preparation as the sarmas. It's different but just as good...

Ćevapčići (Croatia / Serbia)

Coming from Bosnia and inherited from the Ottomans, Ćevapčići are small cylinders of minced meat embellished with spices found in the countries of former Yugoslavia. Croats like to eat them in sandwiches, also garnished with onions and ajvar (mashed peppers and tomatoes), or fresh kajmak cheese. THE sandwich to taste in Croatia, in both versions !

Gibanica (Croatia / Serbia)

A kind of burek made with cottage cheese, vegetables like spinach, apple pie or even meat. There is also a sweet version, with seasonal fruits such as cherries or apples… Also eaten for breakfast, it is therefore a dish that is both popular and ubiquitous.

Pljeskavica (Serbia)

The very popular Serbian hamburger ! Similar to that of Croatia, but without cheese. Serbs like to eat it between two pieces of bread, somum, which is the local pita. With ketchup, mayonnaise, possibly vegetables, fries, tomato, cucumber, cabbage or peppers if possible spicy, according to individual tastes.

Dream Sports Adventure reserves the right to cancel the package in case of insufficient registration, force majeure or any other valid reason, and in such circumstances will propose to reschedule according to availabilities or to fully refund the packages already purchased, without however giving entitlement to compensation.
